People who received the BCG vaccine will typically have a negative IGRA result, avoiding the false-positive results that commonly occur with skin tests. IGRA tests require only one visit to draw blood, whereas TST requires two visits. Results are usually available within a few days rather than 48 to 72 hours. Additionally, IGRA tests are not affected by previous BCG vaccination or certain non-tuberculous mycobacteria.

However, IGRA tests also have limitations. They cannot be performed in certain settings without laboratory facilities.
