However, direct afternoon sun through a window can actually burn orchid leaves, creating brown, papery patches.

Environmental stress from low humidity, cold temperatures, or drafts weakens orchids over time. Ideally, orchids should receive 12-14 hours of light daily. In homes with inadequate natural light, a basic LED grow light positioned 6-12 inches above the plant can make a dramatic difference. You don't need expensive specialized orchid lights—standard full-spectrum LED grow bulbs work well and cost $20-50.

Seasonally, light conditions change. A south-facing window that provides perfect light in winter may be too intense in summer. You might need to move your orchid or use a sheer curtain to filter summer sun, particularly in hot climates.
