As the cartridge emerges from the valve body, you may notice water or mineral deposits around its edges. This is common in areas with hard water. Once completely removed, examine the old cartridge's condition. You'll likely see white or tan mineral buildup, especially around the stem and seals. This buildup is the primary reason cartridges fail—minerals accumulate and restrict water flow or damage the internal seal surfaces.
After full extraction, inspect the valve body's interior. Some debris or mineral deposits may remain in the valve body itself. Using a small cloth or old toothbrush, gently clean the interior surfaces of the valve body. Remove any loose mineral deposits or debris. Do not use abrasive materials or high-pressure cleaning methods, as these can damage the valve's internal surfaces. A damp cloth and light brushing are sufficient to clean the valve body.
