Overtightening can crack plastic pipes or strip metal threads.

Attach the P-trap to the tailpiece. The P-trap has two connection points: one connects to the tailpiece above, and one connects to the wall drain. Slide slip nuts onto both the tailpiece connection and the wall drain stub. Insert the P-trap between these two points. Hand-tighten both slip nuts, then use your wrench to secure them. The P-trap should hang naturally without forcing or bending. If the P-trap does not align easily, you may need a slightly different length of tailpiece or P-trap. Ask your hardware store employee about adjustable P-trap kits that allow for length variations.
